15 Things That You Don’t Need And Can Sell To Make Extra Money

Most of the time we tend to forget that some of the items we throw away may have some value to someone else. You know what they say, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

Many of us have items within our home that are no longer useful to us and we get rid off by throwing them away in the trash where they will end up in a landfill. Well, some of those items can be sold for some money without contributing to the world’s landfill problem. Somewhere in the world, a person is willing to buy that item from you so that they can use it for something they are working on.

Below I will give you a list of things that YOU can sell to make some extra bucks.

  1. Toilet Paper Rolls
    • I have seen empty toilet paper rolls being sold on Etsy, Amazon, and eBay. Some sellers are selling the higher quality ones for approximately $8.00 for 50 rolls, and $10.00 for 100 rolls of the cheaper lesser quality ones. If you have a big family just imagine all the extra money you are throwing away in the trash each year.
  2. Empty Egg Cartons
    • There are many people who do art projects with their kids that are willing to pay between $5.00 to $10.00 for 12 empty dozen-egg cartons. Again money that is usually thrown away by families all the time!
  3. Old Books
    • You will be surprised by the number of book lovers that are out there. Many people are willing to pay for that book you plan on getting rid of. You could place the books up for sale on Amazon, Etsy, and eBay to name a few. If the book is a rare book or a special edition the price goes up significantly, so make sure to double check your books before listing.
  4. Old Magazines
    • I have seen magazines posted online for sale too. They are usually 12 magazines that are sold at the same time. There are some which are individually sold but they tend to be about celebrities. Make sure not to just throw them away especially if they are vintage because vintage magazines sell for more than recent magazines.
  5. Empty Used Cardboard Boxes
    • I once saw people selling Amazon delivery boxes on eBay and thought that was really interesting. I think they were selling 20 boxes for around $20.00 – $30.00. You could also sell boxes that you bought or used for moving on any website too.
  6. Jewelry
    • Many people out there are very crafty and like to make their own jewelry. They tend to buy them online because the jewelry piece(s) have beautiful beads they could use to make other jewelry or maybe the main charm caught their attention. You can put old jewelry you don’t want anymore for sale online and someone will eventually buy it. Some people tend to sell them in bulk and/or group them by color when they sell them.
  7. Old Electronics
    • I don’t know about you guys but my family has gone through many electronics over the years and have accumulated a whole drawer or two full of them. You can actually sell this electronics online too. Many old devices may contain certain parts that some techy person might need for a project.
  8. Old Chargers
    • If you have old chargers that you don’t use anymore you could sell them and gain some money. Other people could need a specific charger but are unable to find it anywhere,  or maybe buying a used one online is cheaper than buying a new one.
  9. Sell Your Old Clothes
    • If you have clothes you do not want anymore you could always sell them on Poshmark, ThredUp, or even on eBay. However, if you want full control of the price you should stick to Poshmark and eBay. With ThredUp you have to send in your HIGH-QUALITY clothing into a bag and THEY determine the amount of money THEY will give you.
  10. Old CDs Or DVDs
    • If you are digitalizing your music or movies, you can sell your old CDs or DVDs. 100 bulk DVDs sell for around $40 on eBay. Like seriously people are actually still willing to buy them!
  11. Gift Cards You Do Not Want
    • A couple of people I know actually buy gift cards from people for less than the gift card is actually worth. That means the buyer gets more bang for his/her buck. However, the seller of the gift card does not technically lose because they received the card as a gift from someone else and were not going to use it anyway. So, if you do not plan on using the gift card you could sell it to someone else that is willing to use it. It’s a win-win situation.
  12. Your Recipes
    • If you are love cooking and making new recipes you could actually sell them to other people. You can also make a YouTube video that demonstrates how to make the recipe and make money from Google’s Adsense. You can also choose to make a website dedicated to cooking recipes and make money from the ads or sponsorships on your website.
  13. Your Art
    • If you like to draw and/or paint you can profit off of your hard work. You can start an Etsy shop and sell “prints” of the work that you made. Since you will most likely not be selling the original painting/drawing (you could if you want) but the “print” you are guaranteed to make money for the unlimited amount of purchases that people can make of your art.
  14. Sell Your Hair
    • Yeah, there is a market for that. It’s actually a pretty profitable one too. If you are a woman or man you could grow out your hair and then sell it to a person willing to buy it from you. These people make this hair into wigs or sell it to someone who will make it into a wig. The hair USUALLY gets turned down if it is damaged. I say USUALLY because it depends on who you sell the hair to and where you sell it (website, in person, etc.).
  15. Valuable Coins
    • If you don’t know there are coins that are very valuable. What makes a coin valuable are typically the number of coins that were produced that year, the material used to make the coin, and whether or not there is an “error” in the coin. Some coins are worth hundreds of dollars while others can be worth thousands of dollars. So, you might want to do some research on valuable coins and check every single coin you have in your piggy bank.
