The New Duolingo Update

I have been using Duolingo on and off for the past 6 years (since 2014). I have gotten to experience the multiple updates done throughout these 6 years.

I have to be honest and say that at first I did not really like this new update but now after a while, I have begun to enjoy it a lot.

Here is a list of some things that were changed and added

  1. The courses are now more effective. Linking to each other more easily than before.
    • Although some people lost a lot of crown during this update which is very sad.
  2. The Duolingo clubs have been removed due to lack of usage.
  3. Leagues have been added to encourage competition and improve involvement of the Duolingo community.

There are also some things I hate about this update. For example,

  1. Our profile does not show our streak, lingots, or our crown level in a language.
  2. Every one keeps earning more and more Lingots and there is nothing new to spend it on.
  3. New Outfits and Bonus Skills available for purchase on the app have not been added in a long time.
  4. Some people actually enjoyed the Duolingo Clubs but they were removed.
    • Now there is no longer a way to interact via club messages with other Duolingo users in our language.
  5. Some people dislike the Duolingo leagues because it encourages them to try to compete with other users.
    • They do not want to be persuaded to try to beat other people by being in a league.

Overall I think this new Duolingo update is extremely good despite all the things I hated about it. I think Duolingo should create a forum where they ask users what feature they would like to see in the future. This will make all the Duolingers extremely happy. 😃
